Twittering Guinness

Last night, Liz Strauss was discussing Guinness with friends and tweeting about it on Twitter.  Being an Irish woman who believes there is no such thing as a beer too dark, I was moral bound to join the discussion. When the discussion turned to the nutritional value, I took the innocent step of retweeting

“Guinness only contains 198 Cal per pint – fewer than skimmed milk or orange juice”

I was delighted and surprised to see how my retweet spread and the replies started to come in. Someone even questioned my choice of Guinness over Mic Ultra for half the calories, but I quickly pointed out the solution. If calorie count is truly the bottom line, than the obvious choice is to just drink half a pint of Guinness. What does it say that my most popular action on Twitter was on the calorie count of beer!

It probably says that I have excellent taste in beer :)

It also got me thinking of the many virtual and real Guinness that I have shared with my online friends. It was an online buddy that made me my first Bruised Apple (Guinness and dry apple cider). When my mother died, it was another online buddy that came over and made me a Bruised Apple. When they are in town and dine with me, they just might feast on a hearty Irish Stew cooked in Guinness.  If we are gaming online, in different states or even different countries, it is not unheard of to share a virtual brew.

I guess it comes around full circle: Twitter as part of the Internet, Guinness and my natural tendency to nourish.

I agree that you have excellent taste in beer. HOwever, there are so many beers to taste, so little time and so many calories!

Very true, Guinness stew is a treat for company. It is so yummy and delicious but I probably make it only 3-4 times a year. We have something called WABL, WAshington Beer Lovers and the brewers make us special goodies. We have 4 beer fests a year and an event held at a brewery every month. I usually save up my beer calorie allotment for those special occasions!

It is very yummy indeed. It is a household fave around here. I lost count of how many servings Jer had the last time he was here.
