Web Wonders and Horrors: e-Mail

I love the web best when it isn’t just linking pages together but when it is linking people. Email and the Internet have evolved into powerful tools that allowed us to relate with others in new and powerful ways. I have been very blessed by the relationships that I initiated and cultivated over the Internet. My best friend for over eight years was someone that I first met playing an online game. I met someone else via that same game that evolved into a friend and colleague as he traveled around the world. When it was time to settle down, he decided to move to Seattle, because of our connection and work together. I used to learn online and now 90% of my teaching is online.  Students that took my classes years ago are now my sub-contractors on projects, even though we have never met face to face. The world wide web can be a pretty wonderful place and e-mail is a powerful means of initiating and maintaining relationships

chris broganLast week, I reached out via email to a friends and colleagues. I needed some help in securing some short term projects and I knew that I needed people with influence to get the word out. Although Chris Brogan and I have only met in person during scattered conversations during a conference, we have kept in contact in the year since then.  He tweeted about my Hire Bean page this morning and the page hits sky rocketed.  I was delighted and eagerly awaited the responses from the contact form. Hour by hour I watched the page count climb and my email box remain empty. I knew that the form worked last night and promptly emailed me my test form contents. Unfortunately, one huge spam email overloaded my email box and I did not find the problem until this afternoon. The problem has been fixed and I have changed my alert notification system so it notifies me within the hour instead of the day.  Although it will prevent further problems, I have not been able to capture the forms that were sent out earlier today. Even if you received a green success message earlier today, the message was not forwarded to my email.

If you are interested in my services, please contact me via the form, Twitter, or Facebook.

well that is awful, especially if you missed a good opportunity because of that. The spam comment attempts on my blog have been horrible lately. So glad I have the antispam filter there.

Thanks Deb. The issue wasn’t spam on the blog but on the email account. The spam didn’t come in via the form but was an email with a huge attachment that filled the email inbox. :(
